As you are aware, with an increasingly litigious society resulting in a higher frequency of claims and increased awards, it has never been more important to ensure that your clients have adequate limits of Indemnity in respect of liabilities. Depending on the product we are able offer policy limits of up to £35 million.
Single excess
This policy will cover excess liability in respect of any one of the following:
Public and Products Liability
Motor Third Party Property Damage (maximum £5 million)
The scope of cover will usually follow that of the primary policy.
A more efficient method of arranging an excess liability programme is to take advantage of one of our established multi line products as follows:
Combined excess
This takes the form of a combination of the covers given by single excess policies. The advantages are:
- Cost efficient. This is less expensive than effecting separate policies
There is less administration work involved
Flexibility - a separate limit, and separate attachment point, apply to each type of liability
Higher limits available for motor liability
Again, the scope of cover will usually follow that of the relevant primary policy.
Select Excess
This policy provides excess cover in a way similar to that described above, however in addition includes difference-in-conditions cover around the Insured’s various primary policies. In other words where the Select Excess cover is wider than the primary policy the cover drops down to apply above a deductible.
The main advantages are:
- This is less expensive than effecting separate policies
- There is less administration work involved
- The highest limits are available for this product
- Provides wider cover than is normally available in primary policies
- The policy limit, which applies across EL, PL and Motor TPPD, can be as low as £5m or as high as £35m.
Excess Motor Third Party Property Damage
This is a recent addition to our Excess liability range and provides top-up cover for third party motor damage to property above that offered by the underlying commercial motor policy. (Commercial motor policies frequently have a limit of £1 million.)
